8 Types of Reactions on Hearing The Name Delhi University.

by Team FUCCHA

Delhi University, with its worldwide repute, does come with many pre-conceived notions from students, professors and parents alike. Some are quite bizarre and true while some just outrageous myths. Believe me; if ever have been a DU student before or have any friends studying in the university, you must have heard at least one of these reactions from your friends or their parents, school teachers, college professors or even your neighbors.

  1. “DU? DU me toh classes hoti hi nahi”

This probably is the first reaction of people when they hear of DU. People should know that regular classes does takes in all colleges of DU and attendance is taken pretty seriously. By choosing not to go and not attend classes will land us in big trouble at the end of the semester.

  1. “DU me toh bas party- sharty hoti rehti hai”

2 (1)

Yes, the students of the university do attend a lot of parties with friends and college mates. But it doesn’t happen every night. In fact DU students are loaded with assignments, internal preparation, internships, society meetings, fest managing, fest practice and so many other things to do that some even forget about partying.

  1. “DU ke North Campus ka crowd accha hai.South aur Off campus ka crowd toh chalega types hai”

3 (1)

It is only when a student has visited two or more colleges in the University, he will realize that there is a mixed crowd, be it North Campus, South Campus or Off Campus. The idea of DU is that it attracts students from all over India so that there is a blend of cultures the students will get exposure as required from the university.

  1. “DU me sab ameer bigde huye bacche padhte hain”

4

Again, DU has a mixture of students hailing from rich to middle class to simple backgrounds. While it is true that many spoiled rich brats do study here, it’s certainly false that everyone in the University is a show-off.

  1. “DU students bass smoke aur weed karte hain”

5 (1)

Again it’s partially true. While many colleges do have famous sutta lane, smoking is a personal choice for any student. All the students don’t  get high in the campus areas.

  1. “Tumhare bahut badhiya fest hote honge”

6

The fests of colleges of the number one University in India do attract a large number of students all over India. However they are highly overrated and the management scenario is an utter chaos.

  1. “Tum toh kabhi bhi college bunk kar sakte ho”

7

As exciting as that sounds, sadly, 5 marks of our internal assessment is reserved for attendance. We cannot bunk our classes as we wish. If we do so, the consequences during end semesters are not so bright.

  1. “DU mai hai. Intelligent hoga”

8

The procedure of admission in the University is fairly simple. Mug up during CBSE Board exams and get admission in DU. However Board percentage does not always equate to intelligence. There are many other intelligent students in other Universities of India and not all the intelligent ones come to DU. DU has students who excel in sports, music, dance, management, events, fund raising etc. The students explore a plethora of options other than academics to improve their overall personality.
