Summary

West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination also known as WBJEE is conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). The board was established in 1962 primarily to conduct Common Entrance Examinations for Undergraduate Level Engineering Courses in West Bengal.

Candidates are offered the opportunity to seek admissions to undergraduate level engineering and medical courses in West Bengal by submitting WBJEE application forms and completing the admissions through e–Counselling.

The dates for WBJEE 2017 has been announced. The exam will be conducted on April 23, 2017 to offer admissions to UG level engineering & technology, pharmacy as well as architecture courses in Universities, Government Colleges along with Self Financed Institutes of West Bengal.

Eligibilty Criteria

Citizenship

Only Indian citizen can apply for this exam.

Age Limit

  • Candidates who appear for WBJEE exam to gain admission in Engineering / Technology (other than Marine Engineering), Pharmacy and Architecture programme have to be at least 17 years of age as on December 31, 2017. There is no upper age limit for WBJEE 2017.

  • A candidate born on or after January 1, 2000 is not eligible to appear in the WBJEE-2017.

  • Candidates who appear for the exam to gain admission in Marine Engineering course have to be at least 17 years of age or above as on December 31, 2017.

General requirements:

For appearing in both Paper 1 and 2:

  • Candidate must have passed the Qualifying Examination i.e. the ‘10+2’ examination with Physics and Mathematics along with any one of Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science / Computer Application as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects .

  • Candidate must have obtained at least 45% marks (40% for the candidates belonging to reserved category) in the above three subjects taken together

  • Must have passed English in the ‘10+2’ examination with at least 30% marks

  • The Board of the said Qualifying Examination must be recognized by the Central Government or State Government concerned

For appearing in both Paper 2:

  • Candidate must have passed ‘10+2’ examination with Physics and Chemistry along with any one of Mathematics / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science / Computer Application as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects as stated above in regular class mode

  • Must have obtained at least 45% marks (40% for the candidates belonging to reserved category) in the above three subjects taken together

  • Must have passed English in the ‘10+2’ examination with at least 30% marks

  • The Board of the said Qualifying Examination must be recognized by the Central Government or State Government concerned

The institute wise academic eligibility criteria for WBJEE 2017 is as follows:

The University of Calcutta

All available Courses except ‘Jute & Fibre Technology’

Pass ‘10+2’ or equivalent Examination with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects with at least 60% (55% for Reserve Category Students) marks in all the above three subjects taken together, individual pass marks (both in theory & practical where ever applicable) in each of the subjects and with at least 30 % marks in English

Jute & Fibre Technology Course

Pass ‘10+2’ or equivalent Examination with Physics and Mathematics along with any one of Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology as compulsory subjects with at least 45% (40% for Reserve Category Students) marks in all the above three subjects taken together, individual pass marks (both in theory & practical where ever applicable) in each of the subjects and with at least 30 % marks in English.

The Jadavpur University(Faculty of Engineering & Technology)

All available courses including Bachelor of Pharmacy and except the five Year degree course in Architecture

Pass ‘10+2’ or equivalent Examination with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects with at least 60% (45% for Reserve Category Students) marks in all the above three subjects taken together, individual pass marks (both in theory & practical where ever applicable) in each of the subjects and with at least 30 % marks in English.

The West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences

B. Tech (Dairy Technology) course

Candidate must have passed the Qualifying Examination i.e. the ‘10+2’ examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects as stated above in regular Class mode.

Must have obtained at least 50% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to WBJEE-2017 Information Bulletin Page: 12/62 reserved category) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English taken together.

The Board of the said Qualifying Examination must be recognized by the Central Government or State Government concerned.

The Neotia University

All available B. Tech courses except Marine Engineering

Pass ‘10+2’ or equivalent Examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, as compulsory subjects with at least 60% marks in the above three subjects taken together.

B. Tech in Marine Engineering

Pass ‘10+2’ or equivalent Examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, as compulsory subjects with at least 60% marks in the above three subjects taken together and at least 50% in English.

Exam Pattern

This entrance exam conducted is held on offline mode to test the aptitude of candidates in three subjects which are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. Though, there are two papers which consists of

  • Paper-I - Mathematics

  • Paper-II - Physics & Chemistry combined

1.Candidates interested in Engineering/Technology/Architecture Courses need to appear in both Paper-I and Paper-II.

2.If the candidate wants admission in Pharmacy Course of the Jadavpur University, appearing in both Paper-I and Paper-II is compulsory.

3.For admission to any Pharmacy Course other than that of the Jadavpur University, appearing in mathematics is not compulsory for the students. Only score in ‘Physics + Chemistry’ (paper-II) shall be considered.

4.Students appearing in both Paper-I and Paper-II can also apply for admission to Pharmacy course

Questions in WBJEE are completely based on the syllabus mentioned for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

The exam pattern for WBJEE 2017 is as given below:

Students get question with four options. Each question has only one correct answer and candidates have to colour the bubble of the correct answer in their OMR answer sheet.

  • In Category I: Only one answer option is correct

  • In Category-II: Only one answer option is correct

  • In Category-III: One or more answer options are correct

For Category 1 and Category 2

  • Only one option is correct, correct response yield one mark.

  • Incorrect response will yield -1/4 (25% negative) marks

  • For any combination of response with more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -1/4 (25% negative) marks.

But for Category 3

  • One or more options may be correct. Only all Correct response will yield 2 marks

  • Any combination of correct and wrong response will be treated as incorrect and the candidate will yield 0 marks for that.

  • For partially correct response, marks awarded will be 2 x no. of correct options marked.
