Meet The funniest parody blogger of India- Aditya Magal Aka Fake Jhunjhunwala

by Team FUCCHA

Aditya Magal is India’s funniest parody blogger and has been writing the widely popular ‘The Secret Journal of Rakesh Jhunjhunwala’ blog since 2008. An Economics graduate, till 2012 he was employed as a Business Analyst which he later left to pursue writing and other avenues. Professionally he has written for  Hindustan Times Brunch and his articles have also been published in Outlook, Economic Times, Hindustan Times and JAM magazine. His sharp and incisive humour has led to his website and twitter handle to be covered in various media including Forbes, Outlook, HT, DNA, and the Economic Times. The character ‘Fake Jhunjhunwala’ based on a parody of Legendary Indian Investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala has gone on to become one of the best known online humour brands in India. In a candid interview with FUCCHA, Aditya Magal talks about his idea,  his successful journey, future plans and more. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala - Aditya Magal   1) Idea behind starting this parody blog? In one word – fun. It was started in 2007 by Mark Fidelman who then handed it over to me. We’ve tried to make sense of the madness called India and entertain people through words, images, videos and tweets. It has been a very rewarding experience thus far. 2) What's a day in the life of Aditya Magal like? I trade stocks till 3:30 after which I tweet, go out, read, write, play videogames and watch TV. Pretty casual. 3) You have leveraged Twitter very well; now tell us the bad side of Twitter world?  There is a basic intolerance for what you say at times. It’s a case of offline thinking spilling onto online action. If your views are contrary to some people’s expectations then abuse and trolling becomes easy. 4) From 2007 (starting the blog) to 2014 (reaching 78,000+ followers), how has been the journey so far?  Fantastic and fun. When I started writing the blog I seriously had no idea it would lead to all this – a very engaging audience, friends, twitter and now a book titled ‘How to become a billionaire by selling Nothing’ published by Random House. It has been awesome! 5) When did you realize you were famous? (Don’t be modest) I’m not famous and I’m not being modest. I’m just someone who likes having fun and found a space online to engage with others like me and at times get feedback on my writing as well. 6) You have such a huge fan following on twitter, what’s your advice to a) Real Rakesh Jhunjhunwala – Please take care of your health! b) Investors – Please take care of your money! c) BJP/Congress/AAP – Please take care of your promises! 7) Did you ever get a call/mail from Real Rakesh Jhunjhunwala? If yes, please share the experience I had the pleasure of meeting Mr.Jhunjhunwala in 2012 for an article for the Economic Times. It was a lot of fun. He had no airs about him and was very kind and accommodating to someone like me who is very inexperienced in the Stock Markets. Even though he is a 30+ year Market veteran and a billionaire and I am someone who is still learning about equity and markets and is pretty much broke all the time, he treated me with genuine kindness and grace. Even his office staff and colleagues were very courteous and sporting. Since then I’ve spoken to him a few times on the phone and he’s always been nice (as long as he isn’t drunk!). Even my book is based on the ‘Jhunjhunwala’ character from the blog – what can I say, he really is awesome! 8) What are your future plans? I want to write more. It is my passion. My first book like I said earlier ‘How to become a billionaire by selling Nothing’, the story of a man who wants to sell ‘Nothing’ launches on May 9th, 2014 and is up for pre-order now from both Flipkart and Amazon . I do hope everyone reads it and gives me their feedback. Apart from writing, I want to just help people, not in an NGO type way but just those who are in pain and suffering. Whatever little I can do I hope will help them .These 2 are my life goals. Dekhte hain hota hai kya! 9) Any tips/suggestions for FUCCHA? Absolutely none. You’re doing a great job. Very many thanks to Tarun for wanting to interview me and the readers for reading this. Appreciate it
