Where you will find the latest information about competitive exams, prep tips, cut-offs and everything about your career and dreams?
Well, there is a place to go for- CareerAnna.com . Incarnated as Career Anna, this community is a one stop for all your career needs!!
We caught the co-founder of Career Anna- Varun Saxena, an alumnus of NITIE Mumbai. He has been in corporate world for around 4 years.
He has rich experience of interacting with Management aspirants as Super Moderator on PaGaLGuY.com, running MBA preparation helplines and helping people through career consulting. He recently wrote a book on WAT GD PI preparation for MBA Admissions which has become a Bestseller in Exam Prep Category in its inaugural year itself.
In a quick chat with Varun, he revels about the idea, journey, future plans of Career Anna and more.
1) Idea behind CareerAnna? Why did you choose this name?
CareerAnna is a thought that arise out of the passion and certain observations made while pursuing the same at other portals. Having been the part of multiple MBA and other career portals, I observed that no single platform addresses the entire career cycle for any domain, be it MBA, Banking, Engineering, UPSC etc. Even today there are some platforms that provide you forum for peer to peer preparation; some provide notifications and announcements, some expert guidance etc. The idea behind CareerAnna is to address this gap, serve as the one stop solution for end to end career cycle and evolve a strong community like engagement among all the stakeholders.
The name selection took a good amount of brainstorming and lot of arguments within our team. It was one of the most memorable days. We wanted a name which can have a connect with our customers as well as have the flavor of mentor/big brother who can be trusted for credible assistance and ‘Anna’ served these needs well.
2) Tell us something about your team.
Enthusiasm and passion to facilitate others in growing their career is what defines the CareerAnna team. In addition to the core team, we have around 10 people from industry, IIMs, other top B Schools and reputed engineering colleges who help CareerAnna as volunteers, as and when the need arises. Selfless hand lend by these people to CareerAnna has helped us grow at a much better pace than what we expected at the time of start.
We recently hired the first full time employee for CareerAnna as well.
3) How has been the journey so far? Would you like to share few milestones CareerAnna has achieved in last few months?
The journey has been pretty exciting and full of hiccups, as it would be the case for many startups. And I am sure; all the entrepreneurs like us enjoy every bit of it.
We just completed our 10 months of successfully helping people yesterday i.e. 14th March. Recently, we crossed 1.75 million views, had tasted being in top 5k websites in India and have also started off some exciting partnerships with industry experts and publication houses- which will benefit our users immensely in coming up days.
4) What has been the most difficult and exciting phase in your journey?
I will say every day throws a new challenge to us, with most difficult part of the day being when we need to go to the drawing board to ideate, debate (err almost argue among each other) and see what best can we do for creating engagement across different careers.
There is a huge difference in behavior of users across career domains and trying to address these different behaviors simultaneously makes the journey difficult, but it brings along excitement of its kind which adds colors to the otherwise monotonous life.
5) Would you like to share the stats(readership), college penetration across India?
In addition to the aggregate views that I have already mentioned, we are blessed to be appreciated daily by 15k to 18k MBA community members, 8k to 10k in Banking and around 5k in Engineering on an average.
As far as college penetration is concerned, we have partnered with IIM A, SPJain, XLRI, NITIE, SCMHRD and few other top B Schools for their events. In addition, we have been engaged with majority of top 15 B Schools through means of projects etc.
6) You are mentor for many IIM/NITIE aspirants, 3 mantras you would like to give to these aspirants to crack CAT 2014.
- CAT is not an exam that will make or break your career. It is just one of the many ways to build a career and don’t forget, even till today a huge number of the CEOs are college drop outs or non MBAs.
- Play the game at your strengths. Do not give up the strategy that suits you the best just because some 100 percentiler had a different strategy.
- Do analyze your CAT mocks in detail- it helps much more than any teacher/coaching notes, books etc.
7) Any memorable moment during your NITIE days?
Aah! Was that to turn nostalgic!! Those are the most missed days of my life. Each and every day spent in the lavish campus is memorable in one or the other way. But, winning NPL 2.0 as the owner of Delhi Dashers team is undoubtedly the most memorable moment.
8) What are your future plans?
Keep working to take CareerAnna nearer to the level where we achieve the community engagement for career growth (aspirant, student and professionals), provide end to end career solutions for plethora of career domains and hence add value to the lives of people around.
And at personal level, may be this is the time to start writing my second book.
9) Any tips/suggestion for FUCCHAs?
I ain’t that old! J However, will share 2 cents because this is what I believe:
Be Yourself. Know your dreams. Have goals carved out from your dreams and passion. Work relentlessly to achieve them. Rest will follow. Ignore all those who make fun of your passion or believe you cannot succeed.
Simultaneously, remember one thing: Try to encourage and motivate people around you. They already have many to pull them back.
